September 2019: "Lifelong Learning"

Readingbylight.png

“Lifelong Learning” is the theme for our Creative Path Walk in September 2019.

Saturday, Sept. 21: from 12noon through to 4:00pm
Sunday, Sept. 22:
from 12noon through to 4:00pm
Monday, Sept. 23:
morning between 8am-10am - and afternoon between 4pm-7pm
Tuesday, Sept 24:
morning between 8am-10am - and afternoon between 4pm-7pm
(Allow 30 minutes for your walk. Booking ahead is suggested.)

In recognition of the powerful continuum that education offers, and the devotion we feel to the teachers in our lives, we create a walk/journey that speaks to the knowing heart and feeling mind. The yearn to learn is what makes us all such great citizens and fellow travelers. Join us in this liminal classroom (the Reims pattern labyrinth) for there is so much to know and remember.

Large-scale walking patterns have captivated humans for thousands of years. Here at Cerimon House, we see the labyrinth as a signature image for our work in the community, especially during these times of dramatic change in the world. This unique path is a pleasing way to focus, and move forward. Our walking pattern is a 33 foot adaptation of the historic design from Reims, France. Similar to a large-scale compass, our attendees enjoy walking on this floor pattern to focus, unplug, restore, and recalibrate. Unlike mazes (which are designed to amaze-or-confuse) you can't get lost on a labyrinth as they are “unicursal”, which means there is always a way forward and an arrival point at the center.

Allow 30 minutes for the Creative Path Walk experience,
and then stay awhile to decompress.
(Pre-scheduled half hour slots are available at the link below. )
Walk-ins (between 12 noon to 3:30pm on scheduled weekend dates) are also welcome,
and there is usually no more than a ten minute wait in that case.

* Our labyrinth is a shoe-free zone, so please do wear comfy socks.
* Our building is indeed climate controlled.
* The experience is contemplative, and is recommended for those age 9-&-up.
* Happily, it is a cellphone and camera-free zone.
* After your walk, we encourage you to stay with us : to sip tea and decompress.

Our monthly events are open to the public, and donations are most welcome:
the proceeds benefit our nonprofit organization's programming & community offerings.

October: "Home & Harvest"

Screen+Shot+2019-06-17+at+1.43.06+PM.png

BE WITH US TO WALK THE PATH THIS MONTH ON:
SUNDAY, OCT. 20 = FROM NOON TO 4PM
- AND! - MONDAY & TUESDAY, OCT.. 21 & 22 = FROM 8-10AM OR 4-7PM

“Home & Harvest” is the theme for our Creative Path Walk in October, 20019.

The journey to home, and the endeavor of finding one’s true hearth, is a lifelong pursuit. The phrase “home” means different things to people, and in these times we recognize the diasporas taking place around the world, and how that, too, is a reason to stop on the path for a moment to consider where we feel safe and recognized. May we all strengthen the belief that we have enough to harvest, and to share our bounty with others. Let’s practice welcoming the stranger.

Allow 30 minutes for the Creative Path Walk experience,

November 2019: "Returning the Thanks"

Thanks-cornucopia.png

“Returning the Thanks” is the theme for the Creative Path Walk in November, 2019.

Sunday, Nov. 17: from 12noon through to 4:00pm

Tuesday, Nov 19:
morning between 8am-10am - and afternoon between 4pm-7pm
(Allow 30 minutes for your walk. Booking ahead is suggested.)

At this time of Thanksgiving, we recognize the power of Gratitude. May we carry a cornucopia in our mind, body, and spirit, and be the embodiment of thanks that we all long for. Together we are cornucopian: an abundant amount of good things, overflowing with plenty. The response of “You are welcome…” wants to be as deeply felt as the “Thanks…” that was sweetly proffered. Such is the reciprocal nature of gratitude, and such is our destiny as Earthlings sharing a path of promise and peace.

New Years Day 2020: "Hopes & Resolutions"

Wednesday, January 1st

“Hopes & Resolutions” is the theme for
our Creative Path Walk on New Years Day.

At the time of the Solstice (mid December), our hemisphere officially transitions into Winter, and the days begin to grow longer. People, creatures, and plants set their sights on the future news of Spring. Our Creative Path Walk pattern & design is perfect for setting your intentions for the new year: those personal hopes & resolutions.
Join us on the journey, one of our annual favorites.

Special June Event 2019: "Solstice & Science"

A special event led by Rev. Sandra Grace of the Liminal Space Society.

The Summer Solstice is celebrated around our marvelous round world.

Why did our ancestors stop to honor and observe the Solstice? What is the Solstice?  What is the science behind the observance? How did our ancestors 6,000-9,000 years ago know where to place the monolithic stones or draw the Medicine Wheel to orient to the Solstice? Why is it important now to understand and reconnect to these practices and observations?

Join us to explore many of the world’s ancient dedications to the observation of the stars, the moon, the sun in the cycles of life.  We will come together to walk a labyrinth as a symbol of walking our path back to a connection with the natural world and our place within it.

“The Summer Sun” is the theme for the Cerimon House Creative Path Walk in June 2019.
The Summer Equinox is a time of change - one that we can magnetically feel in the heated air.
Join us for a fascinating meander that touches on climate science, astronomy, myth, literature, and more. Our link to this radiance is what it’s really all about. We must say “Yes!” to the bright day, and recognize that the night is full-to-the-brim with distant suns. Join our universal walk.

our Creative Path Walk in May 2019,

(All five Tuesdays in May 2019!)

We have all traveled great distances, and revel in the safety of recognizable harbors.
The journey is a remarkable trek full of maps, goals, treasures, and questions. There are vistas to see and to sense.
There are the times of planned destinations, and the memories of unknown paths, and yet we never cease to arrive in kindly ports, and delight in how we may have gotten there.

Cerimon House turns ten years old in May.
Join us for a very special month of programming
and our Anniversary Gala on May 11th.

Special May 2019 Creative Path Walk Drop-In Dates:
[Four Tuesdays in a row!: May 7, 14, 21, 28 - from 3pm - 8pm]

Labyrinth Around America

Screenshot 2019-05-03 11.50.44.png

Please drop by and join us to walk the "Labyrinth Around America" in Portland
this coming Sunday, May 5th, here at Cerimon House.

This project, envisioned by Clive Johnson, an English Interfaith minister, writer and labyrinth devotee, is intended to encircle the mainland of the USA in a trail of positive energy, bringing an invitation for people to come together in walking intentionally for peace, communication, and unity.

“The notion is to ‘create a positive energy’ by the movement of the labyrinth in a circle around this great country, embracing both those who dwell within and along the path that the labyrinth takes, and those who come to walk, be with, or circle around the labyrinth as it makes its journey.”

"Spring Peregrination” is the theme for

We celebrate growth and all of the thoughts that so courageously wiggle upward & forward, somehow knowing that there's a "there" just ahead.
Seeds of change, seeds of knowledge, seeds of hope: these are the images that we require in these difficult times.
Springtime does her best to assure us - in a dazzling awakening - that there is definitely a better tomorrow.

Saturday, February 16 & Sunday, February 17

“Intuition & Imagination” is the theme for
our Creative Path Walk in February 2019.

We exalt the right side of the brain, and its fascinating laboratory of artful ideas.
In a world possessed with form & function, apps & metrics, there is the beautiful emotional land of the imagination which is activated by the intuition.
Possessing the “knowing”, celebrating the illogical, the beautiful, and the whimsical…
these are the dancing steps on the subconscious path.

January 2019: "Turning Points"

Screenshot 2018-12-21 16.08.19.png

"Turning Points" is the theme for our
Creative Path Walk in January 2019.
We live a circular life, with our plans and goals adapting, curving, and turning.
How do we best set a course forward, chart a path, and step into action?
Can we stay adaptable so that we might turn on a dime when that’s needed?
To everything there is a season, and we just keep evolving.
This installation features the mandala art work of Ansula Press.

Thankfulness is a loving step on any path, and there is a rhythm in so many cultures at this time of year: the end of the bountiful harvest, even as the colder weather arrives. The days grow darker, and we are filled with the musings that the year may have presented. And so: we celebrate, and focus on the natural bounty provided to us by this remarkable planet, all the while thanking this place we call home.

Join us for this full day immersion of creative expression.
The morning segment of this play-shop will focus on sacred geometry and learning to draw two basic patterns. The afternoon will focus on the contemplative process of the mandala. Short guided meditations aligning with the significance of 11/11 will be offered throughout the day. No experience necessary, supplies are provided. Bring your own lunch, and beverages will be provided.

$90 for the full day:
to pre-register, call Sandra at 503-709-0820

The Liminal Space Society is a group of local teachers, authors, artists, and philosophers who are fascinated by all things liminal: the things that are “betwixt & between”. Thanks for your interest in joining instructors Ansula Press (mandalas) and Nadi Hana (sacred geometry) for a fascinating and artfully liminal day. We are eager to see you there.

October 2018: "Light & Shadow"

Large-scale walking patterns have captivated humans for thousands of years. Here at Cerimon House, we see the labyrinth as a signature image for our work in the community, especially during these times of dramatic change in the world. This unique path is a pleasing way to focus and move forward. Our walking pattern is a 33 foot square adaptation of the historic design from Reims, France. Similar to a large-scale compass, our attendees enjoy walking on the floor pattern to focus, unplug, restore, and recalibrate. Unlike mazes which are designed to amaze-or-confuse, you can't get lost on a labyrinth as they are unicursal: there is always a way forward and an arrival point at the center.

Theme: “Light & Shadow” is everywhere to be seen in the autumn: creating a duality, a spectrum, a balance. And this particular Creative Path Walk honors the aspects of those visual variances. There is the sense of the “veil’ being quite thin at this time of year, and these time changes (both dawn and dusk), prepare us for a historic and essential election = in which illumination longs to prevail.
